UNGA CONFERENCE 2019

TRANSFORMING OUR WORLD: INCLUSIVE SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT for ALL
25 September 2019, Wednesday

Inspired and guided by the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and recalling the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Development, the Journalists and Writers Foundation (JWF) organized an international conference during the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in collaboration with 36 non-governmental organizations from 24 countries. The theme of the UNGA Conference 2019 was: Transforming Our World: Inclusive Social Development for All. The JWF hosted 24 distinguished speakers from 13 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, North America and all the leaders associated with the promotion of humanity to make the world a more inclusive community.

The objectives of the UNGA Conference were: (1) create a platform to debate on the UN Global Agenda 2030 to transform our world, (2) develop strategies and policy recommendations for inclusive social development to ensure equal access to basic services for all, (3) share innovative ideas and practices for the empowerment of young people through an inclusive and meaningful participation in the achievement of sustainable development, (4) guarantee human rights and the rule of law for social and economic development for all, and (5) propose a framework for an action plan to monitor the results of the conference and create partnerships.

This UNGA Conference made reference to what the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) formally adopted four years ago as the UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Sustainable Development Goal # 16 is to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. The successful implementation of SDG Objective # 16 is at the center of the activity of the JWF and its global partners that fully support SDG Objective # 16.

The organizer and partners adopted these objectives:

  • Promote social justice, protect human rights and strengthen the rule of law and democratic values that guarantee social justice, equality and sustainable peace.
  • Share common practices for policy development, as well as opportunities and challenges for policy change within different judicial systems.
