Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Post-2015 Development Agenda

MDG-1

Post-2015 Development Agenda is a new path where United Nations brings together the Member States, public-private sector, local and regional governments and civil society organizations together to create a sustainable future for all. This hand in hand collaboration creates a future that has social inclusion, economic growth, and secure environment.

The United Nations is in the process of defining a Post-2015 Development Agenda with the inputs of government agencies, civil society organizations and public-private sector. This agenda will be launched by the UNGA at the Summit in September 2015, which is the target date for realizing the Millennium Development Goals. The agenda is currently being elaborated through the consultations of the key sectors of the society, economic and social actors and experts of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The process of arriving at the Post-2015 Development Agenda is the result of an extensive collaboration of Member States with a broad participation from Major Groups and other civil society stakeholders. There has been numerous inputs to the agenda; a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the open working groups of the General Assembly, proposals of the intergovernmental committee of experts on sustainable development financing, General Assembly dialogues on technology facilitation and many others. In this manner, United Nations has played a facilitating role in the global conversation on the post 2015 development agenda and supported broad consultations. UN also has the responsibility of supporting Member States by providing evidence-based inputs, analytical thinking and field experience.
